Prosecution’s case/defense response: Berget was sentenced to death for the murder of Correction Officer Ronald Johnson (age 63). Berget and Eric Robert (age 49) used a metal pipe and plastic wrap to kill Johnson during a failed escape attempt. A third inmate, Michael Nordman (age 47) is charged with supplying the pipe and plastic wrap used in the slaying.
