Prosecution’s case/defense response: Lard shot Officer Jonathan Schmidt during a routine traffic stop. Attorneys for Lard argued that he suffers from mental illness or defect and suffered an abusive childhood. Lard was also convicted of possession of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
